Reunion

This afternoon, I drove downtown and met a friend from high school that I hadn't seen in 23 years! She is a transplant to this area, like me. I've been here for 16 years, and she for only 4. It was such a WONDERFUL thing to see her again! We couldn't even remember what classes we had together way back when, and we had so much to share about our lives now and even our families growing up. We only spent about an hour and a half together but agreed that we want to meet again soon.

I told her that I feel like after high school I just walked on and didn't look back, until recently (relatively recently that is - it all started with facebook a year and a half ago). I'm ready to reconnect with the past and it's very cool. I feel like I made a new friend today, in a friend from long ago and far away. I can't even describe how happy I am to have found someone from my hometown who I can connect with here in my adopted home. It was surreal to be sitting in a restaurant catching up with her today -- we are 1500 miles and more than 2 decades from where/when we first met!

I didn't go to my high school reunion, so this was a big deal to me. I haven't had friends visit me either -- even the ones I keep in touch with. This was one of those cool moments when you survey your life a bit -- who you were, where you've been, who you've become -- and see the threads that God has used to weave it all together.

Hard to put all that into words, I hope that makes sense. Well, it does to me :-)
