Cake for me!

As you may remember from my blog a few days ago, I didn't have any cake on my birthday.  In the grand scheme of life and all that is going on in the world, it shouldn't be a big deal.  Yet I have to admit, I was a little disappointed not to have a cake.  It has been years since I've had my very own birthday cake.  My husband, who really is a sweetheart, has forgone this little detail.  It's not that I need the calories...it's just what the cake represents.  As a stay at home mom, gestures of appreciation become that much more meaningful.

Well, last night we were eating dinner when the doorbell rang.  It was my dear friend Joy and her two darling kiddos with a gorgeous cake from a very special little cake shop, just for me.  She apologized for missing my birthday but I thought to myself "this is right on time!"  Unless she read my blog, she wouldn't have known how I was feeling about cake.

It also just so happens that Naomi had the now infamous stomach bug yesterday so it was one of those twilight zone-sick-kiddo-at-home days.  Of my three kids, Naomi is the most demanding when sick.  She wants me to change the TV channel constantly, cries for me then tells me to go away, and is just generally miserable.

So, I was touched by this gesture perhaps more because it came on a difficult day.  Wow.  Not only was Joy incredibly thoughtful, but I felt like my Father God was telling me how special I am to him, as well.  I want everyone to know how good that feels for themselves!
