10. My littlest one melting down at about 2 each afternoon when she just couldn't handle any more driving...but we still had hours to go
9. My middle child --very dramatic-- displaying major attitude, complaining, and yelling at all of us when she couldn't handle any more (this was often after 2 weeks away from home -- with two more weeks to go).
8. My oldest, who was charged with being Mom's helper after Dad flew home, thinking "help" meant griping at his sisters and bossing them around
7. Driving through the Shenandoah valley --GORGEOUS!!!-- listening to U2 and other great music as a sound track
6. Holding a bag while a car sick child puked in the very back of the car while driving through Long Island, NY
5. Holding my daughter over a bucket so she could pee in the back of a duck boat in the middle of Boston Harbor
4. Making a 1 am run to an ER in the middle of VA while hubby and two of the kids slept peacefully, suspecting one child had an ear infection only to find out it was nothing (just DRAMA)
3. Driving through Times Square in the little red van that could; visiting the Jersey shore twice, Philadelphia's Independence Park, Boston, etc...
2. Seeing LOTS of family and friends, much time in the out of doors; feeling empowered that I was able to handle two weeks with the kids --without Dad's help-- followed by a LOOOOOONG drive home
1. Inspite of all the ups and downs, bonding with my kids (and husband while he was with us)
One thing to add as a "bonus" is the jack knifed tractor trailer we saw when driving through the Smokie Mountains in the rain...a bit un nerving to say the least...I'm sure I could add more to the list and make it a top 20 easily, but I'll stop here.
We made some marvelous memories to carry us through the upcoming school year. I miss everyone already and I can't wait to print out pictures and make a photo album to reminisce with.
