N. was very worried because she heard the word "nap" and fretted all morning that she would have to take a nap after lunch in her preschool. She claimed she didn't have a good time, but I think she did and I bet next week she'll be eager to go. She misses her old school though, but pretty soon she'll be used to our new normal.
A. and I. had a blast. A's last class of the day was math games which he didn't particularly like because it was "boring math drills -- no games involved" but I am pleased that he's getting a good review of multiplication and division facts to fortify his foundation as we move on with fractions at home. He made new friends and seemed to feel right at home. I am helping in his first two classes of the day (school yard games and fun easy recipes), which is great. He is also taking biology and volleyball.
I. is taking more reading/history oriented classes and at first she was disappointed not to get more of her first choices at registration, but after a day of classes she seemed really excited about everything. At the end of the day she was so happy to tell me about the new friends she had made! She is also taking a crafts class where they'll be making some pretty cool stuff. I wasn't able to get in as a helper in any of her classes this time around, but hopefully I will next semester.
In addition to the two classes I've already told you that I'm helping with, I am helping in a high school level current events class and then after lunch I help in the nursery. For the final hour I am a floater and since my main job there right now is a "cleaner", that is mostly what I will do as a floater. Last Friday I cleaned from about 2 to 5:15 pm. About 2 hrs. and 15 minutes of that time was solid vacuuming, with out a break. It was grueling and I was exhausted to the point of being numb after such a long day, but I really didn't mind! There was such a sweet spirit among all the families there and it was such a positive experience, that it was well worth any effort on my part. I didn't feel like we were "new" there at all! I felt a little nervous as we got ready that morning, as I'm sure the kids did, but once we got there it felt like we had been members forever.
I am also amazed at the amount of homeschool families we have met in various places in such a short period of time. I've had great support and guidance from a handful of experienced homeschool moms who have given me so much great information. We also joined a support group which will open up even more doors for us, including field trips and lunch dates at the park. A few of those moms/kids are in our co-op as well, so it's nice to begin to see familiar faces and recognize people from one venue to the next.
