Kindergarten trip to the zoo

I had fun chaperoning Isabel's class trip to zoo on Thursday.  It was postponed from the day in April when we had the aftermath of the storms to deal with.  We had a beautiful day, this time!  The only glitches were:  1.  bus trouble -- an alarm was going off continually on the bus and noone could figure out why.  So, we pulled over to the side of the highway (on the access road of a major interstate) and waited for a new bus to come get us.  There were parents following in cars who had no idea why we sat on the side of the road for 20 minutes...we transferred all the kids safely to the new bus by the side of the road rather than pulling into a parking lot. 2.  It was the gorilla's birthday that day and cake was being served, but we never made it to that side of the zoo because when all was said and done we only had 2 hours to see animals.  3.  Boris the lion had just died a few months ago, and one of the elephants was sick so we couldn't get near them OR the giraffes.
The kids did enjoy the show the gibbons put on for us, swinging from branch to branch and chattering away.  Isabel also got a kick out of the camel chewing on hay and laying in the shade (see above).
I always say we live in the "biggest small town" I've ever known.  There were several Kindergarten field trips that day from various schools, and we ran into people we knew from 2 different ones.
