I can't believe it, I will be going to jolly old England sans family (that will be tough...) with my brother R. and sister R., and she will be paying for my ticket! This all came about this past Saturday, we will be leaving in five weeks and I am trying to get a passport...if I get the renewal stuff in the mail tomorrow, I should be able to expedite it and be OK.
This all came about because R. and her hubby and son were planning a family vacation in England this summer. The focus was really going to be on family history and seeing our dad's relatives, and her boys decided she would do better to go without them. She didn't want to go alone, so we will be having a sibling trip! We just had a sibling trip with all of our spouses and kids for the New Year in Florida. Here is a picture of all of us on Sanibel Island.
OK, back to England. We will visit Portsmouth, where my dad was born, and get the family history tour from his cousin. We will be her guests for most of the time, then we will go on to have tea with another of Dad's cousins. I will return a day ahead of R. and R., I'm sure by then I will be very anxious to see my babies. I can't imagine being out of the country and away from my family for such a long time (almost a week!). F. encouraged me to go for it and even booked my flight for me tonight. This is scary and exciting all at the same time. I feel a little irresponsible for going, but who can pass up a free plane ticket to go to England?!? R. has been many times, but I never have.
My friend Angie prayed with me that God would close doors no man can open and open doors that no man can close, that way I'll know what I'm supposed to do because it's the only option. Well, today the doors seemed to be wide open so I am walking through.
I'm looking forward to this time with R. and R., since our dad's death at the end of 2005 we have had lots of opportunities to bond and keep the things that unite us going. I think he'd be happy about that!
